This recommendation is in reference to the outstanding support provided to our church by Scott Taylor. We are very grateful to Scott for his technical expertise, advice, training, volunteering, and attention to detail in helping to establish a powerful worship experience for our services.

Scott came to our aid at a very tumultuous time in our church in 2020. We were only two years old, as an extended location of Awaken Church San Diego, when COVID forced us out of a high school performing arts center where we were holding services. There were very limited options for us to gather for services, and eventually we had to settle for setting up a tent in the parking lot of an old grocery store that had closed down. The environment was obviously not ideal for sound production with a pavement floor and a busy street just a dozen paces away. I did not have high expectations for the quality of sound that we would be able to provide during worship. However, Scott was able to transform the sound environment from that parking lot tent into a concert quality venue every week. From setting up the sound board and speakers to running cables and meticulously checking all aspects of the production system, Scott knew how to engineer the best possible sound with the equipment and environment available. I was so impressed with how he understood the impact each individual factor would have on the overall outcome. Of all the things that we had to settle for in our tent season, a poor-quality worship experience was not one of them thanks in large part to Scott’s efforts. We held services in the tent for a year, and then found another temporary home in a renovated country-western bar. Scott went to work and used his extensive knowledge of sound, equipment, environment, and personnel to lift our level of worship to new heights.

One of the most unique and effective benefits to our church that Scott provided was his ability to help the worship and production teams understand each other, and he trained the teams on how to communicate their needs and preferences to maximize the quality of worship services. Scott also developed and implemented a tailored training program for our production team which drastically reduced the time required to train new volunteers, and brought them up to a high standard of performance quickly. Scott’s program, piloted at our location, became the model he would later implement at all of the Awaken Church locations across multiple states. After a year in the “bar” we moved into a brand new facility, and Scott once again engineered a sound and production solution to create an amazing atmosphere for worship.

In addition to Scott’s technical ability I am so grateful for his heart to understand who we are as a church, and tailor his methods to meet our style. I am proud that Scott decided to join us as a member of our congregation, and I’m thankful for all the time he spends volunteering to further enrich our church family. In closing I would highly recommend Scott for any position pertaining to sound, production, worship, training, or any other position relating to the creation of an excellent worship experience.

One of Scott’s greatest strengths is that he understands that building a great production ministry isn’t simply about equipment—it’s about building people. Technology will change. Equipment will change. Platforms will change. But the ability to develop leaders, establish culture, create repeatable systems, and raise up teams is invaluable to any growing church.
